Who We Are

PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) of Elgin was founded in 1989, whose mission grew out of an intention to address the rising numbers of men, women and families experiencing homelessness in Elgin, Northern Kane County and Hanover Township. PADS of Elgin was officially designated as a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization on September 28, 1990. The PADS mission was formalized under the direction of the Board of Directors and stated as follows: “PADS of Elgin is committed to providing safe shelter, support services, and advocacy to the homeless men, women and children in our service area.”

What We Do

The Emergency Shelter Program provides 365 days/nights of 24/7 safe emergency shelter and comprehensive case management and service coordination to Individuals and families experiencing homelessness. In addition to shelter, the program also provides guests with access to shower and laundry facilities, three daily meals, transportation, and basic necessities such as hygiene products, clothing, footwear and coats. Moreover, our goal at PADS is to ensure each guest is able to leave our shelter with the tools and resources they need in order to lead a self-sufficient life.
