Volunteer: Accompany a Lonely Older Adult to a Special Social Event!

Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly's (LBFE) philosophy, programs and activities are focused on alleviating loneliness and isolation among older adults in DuPage and Kane County. The need for social interaction is critical to the human spirit - we believe that nurturing the soul is as important as feeding the body. The older adults we engage with have little to no contact with family and/or friends and are living life alone. Volunteers support older adults in friendship through various activities and programs, such as in-person visiting, parties, and holidays.

When older adults are invited to an LBFE party, a volunteer is also invited to accompany that older adult. This means that a volunteer picks up the older adult at their home, takes them to the party and shares in the celebration together, then takes the older adult home. Volunteers can use their own car or use rideshare. The impact for an older adult is a friend comes to help them get to a social event with other friends, an opportunity that would otherwise be unavailable to them, as most LBFE older adults struggle with transportation.

To begin, please join us at an upcoming Zoom orientation! Follow the link below to register. Attendance at this one-hour orientation session is required to volunteer, as well as successful completion of a background screen.

Volunteer: End Loneliness! Be a friend to an isolated older adult in Chicago!

Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly's philosophy, programs and activities are focused on alleviating loneliness and isolation among older adults throughout Chicago. The need for social interaction is critical to the human spirit - we believe that nurturing the soul is as important as feeding the body. The older adults we work with have little to no contact with family and/or friends and are essentially alone. Volunteers support older adults in friendship through various activities and programs.

The best way to alleviate loneliness and isolation are regular in-person visits. We are seeking volunteers that can commit to visiting or calling an elder twice a month for 12 months. The overall goal is to develop a friendship together. In-person visits could be in the older adult's home, your home, outdoors (weather appropriate) or in some other great spot in the community. Phone calling could be from anywhere, the perfect remote volunteer experience!

Join us at an upcoming Zoom orientation. Please register through link below. Attendance at a one-hour orientation session is required to volunteer, as well as a successful completion of a background screen.
