Who We Are

Anew: Building Beyond Violence and Abuse (formerly known as South Suburban Family Shelter) is a 44 year old nonprofit domestic violence agency.  Our mission is to provide comprehensive, coordinated services to families in which domestic violence exists, without imposing any one solution.

What We Do

Anew provides caring and confidential help to victims of domestic violence. Our services include, 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, counseling, court advocacy, transitional and rapid rehousing.  We also provide a Community Education Program designed to educated and help school-aged students understand healthy family and teen dating relationships, and to practice healthy, nonviolent behaviors.  Our Community Education Program also provides 40-hour Domestic Violence Training.  This training  provides 40 hours of in-person domestic violence related training in compliance with the Illinois Domestic Violence Act.  Counseling and Social Work CEUs are available.  This format complies with the Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional Board, Inc.'s training requirements for the Certified Domestic Violence Professional or Certified Partner Abuse Intervention Professional certification.  Our Partner Abuse Intervention Program works with adult men and women who have used violence and abuse in their intimate partner relationships.  This program is designed to help participants to recognize and identify abusive behaviors, use non-violent conflict resolution; promote assertive, non-aggressive communication, achieve and maintain healthy and non-abusive parenting skills, and bring awareness of domestic violence.  Our PAIP is approved by the Illinois Department of Human Services.
